Well the replacement ball joint turned up yesterday so that's now fitted but the power steering pump was fun. Had to remove old pulley wheel to go onto new pump why they don't supply them with pulley as this did not goto plan
Morning, no couldn't get pulley wheel off in the end the wheel was bending so had to bite the bullet and order new pulley wheel what a pain and it got stuck in customs as well checking tracking this morning its now been released from CINCINNATI HUB - Ohio - USA what was meant to be just a new steering box and possible steering pump has turned into much bigger job as i have also changed out the link arm and inner and out tie rods as all were showing signs of wear the link are was bad to be honest, the rag joint was fun never done one before , on the steering shaft .pictures to follow ,the master cylinder was just a add on but the amount of rust everywhere is now on hold until car is mobile and used a bit then i will get back onto this as its all working at the moment, and my be get more part in case ready? have master cylinder proportioning valve brake line and a few brake unions and fluid
surprised more have not commented on thread as the posts must help people with there daily project rides if they do work on there cars?
Thanks ranchero I did the same 22quid it arvived yesterday so at least I can put pulley back on and pressing it back on due shape of pump might a pain putting it into press could damage into parts so hopefully this tool will aid putting pulley back on with ease. So pictures of new part I have fitted due to wear and tear tie rods inner and outer link arm upper boil joints some of the castle nuts had to use a nut splitter to remove could of used with new castle nuts but expensive being unf and unc or or 1/2 x 20 if metric cheap to buy metric so just brought new arms not much money from rockauto and now it's all now should a long time link arm was shot.
As ranchero said you buy a tool you might only use it once or sometime you can use on other cars if you work on other cars. It pays for itself if you weigh up garage cost of parts and labour average garage costs 45 upwards plus vat. Time to take car there and back. It can be fun doing the jobs but also a pain in the neck as well but at same time you learn as well.
Some of the tools I have had for years regularly get used. Once TA is mobile again will take of ramp do the front dices and pads and bump stop covers on the duster as dads gor got a mot in a few months then put TA back on ramp to do the brake master cylinder and propertioning valve and will need to replace a few brake lines as the unions are not coming undone so cut them off and fit new.
the pulley tool i found made the job easy to do, weather that was the tool or my pump i will never know. i like that thread checking tool never seen one before. i too have a new rag joint, must fit it one day only had it about 10 years
Been waiting on tools and parts so thought I would look at front fuel lines in engine bay. Bottom one very soft and next to it the other had started to go hard and the top one was showing signs of age so replaced them with new E10 fuel compliant hose and new clips. Weather the hoses had been effected by E10 or not don't know as not used much in car always tried to use 97 or 99 octane which is E5 as all 95 is now E10. Will check all other rubber hoses
The ongoing saga of pulley and pulley tool. The pulley I brought was faulty the nut in kit was course thread and the thread bar was fine thread but smaller than the nut so would just slide over not screw up down the thread so contacted supplier with pictures and video of how tool should work from YouTube he was happy Sent free return label and got my money back order new tool from different supplier it works great so fit pulley to pump and fit to car find out it's the wrong pump back onto rockauto and yes there are different pumps look the same but the pipe outlet and fixing bolts are in different location my pump I have had in stock for 8 months plus so never notice great so waited on that to be delivered fed x tracking showed 3 day delivery great Thursday came got e mail been delivered the picture showed a house not even in village feking hell trying to deal with fed x AI bot then talking to a human was crazy only way I could prove wrong address was post code on street view they wouldn't admit they. Had delivered to wrong address but true to there word it was delivered the next day and is now on car got final adjustment and grease and set up front end but car now of ramp and started on dad's car and will get back to TA once dad's is sorted what a PITA this has all been what was ment to be just power steering box and possible pump.
