Should I use special oil to run in valvetrain?

Perhaps a question for Opieoils.
I have the LS1 stock bottom end with over 170k miles. New pump and timing chain, new Cam, lifters, pushrods and rockers.
Should I use special run in oil for soo many miles then change oil and filter for new good grade oil?

Hmmm. If you the bottom end was new I would suggest running a diesel oil for the break in. Diesel oils contain a much higher zinc content than regular petrol oils. But, your bottom end is old and has taken a beating so I'm not sure.
I'm thinking I would make sure I used plenty of cam lube during assembly, and then break the engine in at a fast idle for 20 mins with a high quality zinc additive before immediately changing the oil an filter.

Should I soak the lifters in something overnight too?

perfect for the cam.
you should always soak lifters in fresh oil overnight. use a pushrod to move the plunger in the oil to ensure they fill up.

now you just need to find an oil additive.
