Every day I go through a list of people signing up to the forum. Simular to below. Some can look genuine. Some used certain email address. Any thing that end in .RU gets rejected, and from now on anything gmx.com as it seems to be a great spam source. Some IP addresses are identified as a spam source so these are a little easier for me to filter out.
Another check is checking the IP address, see what country they are from and how they connected. I get an output like this.
If you went shopping and saw someone in a balaclava you would think they are up to no good. Well them same is when someone access your site from a VPN server. They are hiding their identity(When I say identity, its thier internet service provider location), but why? are they up to no good? it certainly raises red flags.
