Purchased a 1983 Pontic Firebird TransAm

This came up for sale locally.

Someone brought a bungalow and there was a car in the garage. The lady is a hair dresser for someone in the car club. When they learned it ws a Pontiac, they let me know.

The car is a bit special, it is a Pace car edition. Only 2500 of these were ever mde in 1983.

This is a 5 liter auto with the cross fire injection. It looks like two carbs with fuel injectors. Very early fuel injection.

Happy with the price. It should be going to storage or in the garage some time soon so I can work on this. Got insurance today for £129 fully comp. It will be Tax/mot exempt. Although I will still get it MOT'd.

Totally agree. This car will remain unmodified. I have my modified car. This one is will be kept original and only parts that need changing will be replaced with stock ones.

The brake calipers may be seized, I will try soaking them but may end up getting replacement ones. They are listed in rock auto. Around £40 each for rear calipers which which isn't that bad really.

I have loads of paperwork with the car too.

There was a question about if the wheels original for the Pace car edition. The ones fitted are N24 wheels which is correct for 1983. N89 with the bowling ball caps are usually what you see on the pace car. It did cross my mind about searching for correct wheels, but it also seems this car really came with N24, so it is original as it is. So it's saying as it is.

Only thing that will be changing is serviceable items. Engine runs sweet. Although the fuel pump dosn't work right now, spare battery I took was weak. Fuel pump may be seized, it could be a relay or bad earth. But we did have it running.

Not the safest, fuel pressurised in a weed sprayer to get fuel in the pipes on the engine while holding jumps leads to a van behind. It worked, and seems to be running pretty smooth.

The car has been stored for 5 years after failing it's MOT in 2021. Only minor things, like fog light, leaking rear shock, battery tray rust other advisory things were surface rust. For a 40 year old car it's not bad at all. We checked for rust and everything is solid, no welding needed. A wire brush and treatment is all it needs.

agree keep standard ,
clean up parts might work but seals might go once under pressure normal driving for peace of mind
i would change all 4 callipers my be flexi hoses as well you say not a lot of money
replace rear shocks as failed mot on these
full service plus fluid change on auto box and axle remember been sitting for sometime and some moisture will have got in,
full brake fluid flush change

Watch out on rock auto,,some stuff cant be shipped (something to do with Russian steel content)
