Mid engine Corvette

I confess to not having read the entire article before posting here, but I'm wondering what demographic GM would aim a mid engine Corvette at?
It would seem as though its a demographic that they don't currently have in their customer base, but would it alienate existing customers?

Either way - interesting, and I will be sure to do more than glance at the renderings when time allows!!
