Update
This popular police community event for all the family is back for a second year, so come on down for a totally jam packed day of entertainment, exhibitions, and adventures...
Saturday 1st October, 11am - 4pm
Gunwharf Quays Portsmouth:
Working with Gunwharf Quays, the Portsmouth City Centre Unit and Hampshire Constabulary are excited to announce the return of Policing Through The Ages.
In addition to modern police vehicles and exhibits, including the Roads Policing Unit, Communications department, Police Dogs and of course the 'Twitter' famous 'Ni-Nah' the Police Transit Van, currently assigned to the City Centre Unit; visitors will also be able to step back in time and see how policing has changed over the years. Exhibits include over 15 vintage police vehicles including Hampshire Constabulary favourites; the 1965 Volvo Amazon, 1987 BMW 528i and making its debut after a 10 year restoration project the Hampshire Constabulary 1968 MK2 Lotus Cortina.
There will also be a 1940s feel to the site with an authentic 1940s mobile police station and a company of WW2 rifle soldiers. Portsmouth City Museum have also confirmed their support and will also be here showcasing an exhibition about one of Portsmouth's most famous sons, Arthur Conan Doyle, with a Sherlock Holmes exhibition.
We are extremely excited to reveal that we will also have two police horses on duty from Thames Valley Police, offering a rare opportunity for the public to interact with this unit out of the context of seeing them in an operational capacity such as a football match.
There will be entertainment throughout Gunwharf Quays including a police dog display, 1940s dancers, The Hampshire Constabulary Choir and the award winning Hampshire Constabulary Brass Band.
Furthermore there will also be 6 authentic American Police officers including some from the LAPD and NYPD, on patrol with their vehicles which visitors will able to interact with. We also hope to have some other international police officers visiting for the day in uniform whom will be in the county on a course. We really hope all sections of our great communities attend and our invite really does extend to all.
But it's not all about the fun so there will also be some education exhibitions and crime prevention advice on offer including cycle marking, firearms and knife education (FAKE), the federation against copyright theft (F.A.C.T), advice and information on Fraud delivered by specialist Detectives from the City of London Police.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet local police officers from the NIPA Twitter Award winning - Portsmouth City Centre Unit, Special Constables and the Special Constabulary recruitment team, Portsmouth Central Safer Neighbour Teams, Senior Portsmouth Police officers and representatives from the Hampshire Police Authority.
If that's not enough there's also 'police related' fancy dress competition on the day which is open to all (but mainly for the children!). There will be prizes for the best dressed which we hope will be judged by our celebrity guest actor Graham Cole; better known as PC Tony Stamp from the Bill.
All this in one day!! Of course you could just come down and shop but whatever your motivation, we hope to see you there! You can find out more information on
www.twitter.com/pompeyccupolice or
www.twitter.com/gunwharfquays #policingthroughtheages You can also tweet us your 'TV' Detective name to enter our Twitter competition. Take the name of your first pet and a family surname. A draw will be made of the entries and prizes given.
