Burt Reynolds unloaded this incredible Turbo Trans Am from his Florida collection at a recent Barret Jackson auction.None other than Burt Reynolds had his own personal Pontiac Turbo Trans Am up for sale at Barret-Jackson auction in Palm Beach. The April 12th through 15th auction drew in hundreds of cars, but Burt’s Indy 500 Pace Car Trans Am was absolutely one of the highlights.Aside from celebrity ownership, Burt Reynolds turbo 301 cubic-inch powered 1980 Trans Am has a scant 1,600 miles from new, and is a part of Reynolds’ Bandit Movie Cars collection based in Florida. With Indy 500 pace car livery on the doors, and painted in white, with white interior, the car is every bit of early 80’s as you’d expect. Indy 500 fans will love that it even includes the caution light which would be on the pace car if a yellow flag were thrown during the race.As a two-year model – 1980 and 1981 – for this generation of Trans Am, the turbo was a healthy V8 considering the choked GM engines of just a few years prior. Power was rated at 210 horsepower, with a much more respectable 345 lb/ft of torque compared to the 350 cubic-inch engine. Turbocharging was a first for Pontiac when the Trans Am first debuted the turbo models and the engines were quite different from anything else in the Pontiac or even GM lineup. The block was stronger and had a unique crankshaft. Other small odds and ends were different as well, but those in the know would modify the factory blow-off valve in order to gain a few PSI over the factory prescribed 9. Easy driving with all that torque would come from a 3-speed automatic transmission. ALSO SEE: Burt Reynolds’ Bandit Trans-Am Sells for $450,000 Concourse level condition (#1 condition, according to Hagerty) Turbo Trans Am pace car models would fetch around the $50,000 dollar mark. But Reynolds’ special touch and connection with this car more that doubled that price by the time the hammer dropped. Ultimately the rad ride sold for $110,000. #gallery-2 { margin: auto; } #gallery-2 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-2 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-2 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
