What's the difference between a modification and an accessory on a car ?????

I would have thought an accessories put on the outside of the car is a modification. Like extending your rear view mirrors for towing caravans, its a modification to the vehicles which isn't done at the factory.

Dan..the English dictionary says...accessory- supplementary part or object

Modify- change slightly

So this means any thing you add to you car is an accessory , spot lamps ect

Any thing you change is a modification , wheels ect

So my stripes are not a modification then, its only an accessory.

I phone another insurance company the other day, they asked about mods. i started by saying I've changed the air filter. They said wooh we cannot insure you. lol. so i stuck which who I'm with as they know about the mods.
