The value of maintenance

It just goes to prove the value of maintenance.
When I bought the Vette I remember looking at the clutch fluid and thinking that it needed changing.
But as I bought the car, then went on holiday and then Winter was upon us, it slipped my mind.

The drive home from Billing on Sunday was 'spirited' and I became increasingly unhappy with the feel and bite point of the clutch during the journey.
Thinking I was in for a clutch change I soon discovered that the cost from a specialist was around ?2k (remember that the Vette is a trans-axle and getting the car high enough on axle stands is virtually impossible otherwise I would do it myself!).

But some research showed that this is quite a common fault and the clutch fluid was likely old and had moisture in it.
After pulling clean fluid through the system several times until it remained clear I was very impressed with the feel of the clutch and how buttery smooth the shift into gears is now.
I need to drive it to get the full effect and double check everything which likely won't be until the weekend now but I'm mucho happy with the difference so far.

So now I have set some myself some winter tasks of other fluids which are often forgotten, gearbox and diff and a full coolant flush - I just don't know when (if ever) they have been done. So much for service history I suppose!!
And yes, the brake fluid has been done!

maintenance what maintenance ? my parents have a D plate (1980's) 740 volvo with the bosch k tronic system had it for about 16 years now maintenance is a swear word to this car oil change is when you top it up from the leaks, it's had about 4 tyres,1 exhaust, 3 ball joints set of front brakes and ignition module and nothing else not bad for no maintence and about 130k miles on the cloak old school motoring lol

Volvo's are like tanks.
You can even start up tanks that have been sitting there since 1994, lol

Anyway, yes good maintenance is a good idea. I will remember next time not to use engine flush in the Trans-Am, last time I done that it buggered up all the lifters. I must check my diff oil, getting a little rumble at times. I should do that this weekend. and give the rest a good check over while its up in the air, like gear box oil too.

Don't forget to add a little additive to the diff - dilute the oil to much and you'll lose the limited slip.
You would be leaving number 1's and not 11's!!
