earlier in the year i got the Ranchero MOTed . passed no problem one advisory "slight play in the pitman arm" i thought
job for the winter. went on line to got a new one, problem there ain't any. plan B buy a used steering box and hope the arm is OK. plan B worked. earlier this week i am laying under the ranchero trying to work out how to hold the arm to undo the big nut without straining anything. i could detect no play in it but i did have some play in the "rag joint"

At least rag joints are easy to get unless you got the welded shaft type. No pitman arms?????

ford say change the whole assembly. the joint is sold by Dorman as a separate part and as i had one, thats what i did. however i got the kit years ago, but the wrong one. the hardware was no use. the joint did fit so i used the original bolts and made 2 pins to replace the 2 that were drilled out .
