Mobile Speed Traps are not abaout penalising Motorists! That's the claim made by this "Speed Reduction Officer". Do his claims have any basis in reality?

Contentious?
Yes, more than a little. What’s your opinion?
And no, I didn’t write this.
Contentious?... I'd say provocative, angry and probably written by someone who regularly breaks the speed limit and is crap at it because he keeps getting caught lol
It's so full of bitterness... implying the speed camera guy wishes he has an AK47 (even though he denounces this later) and that speed camera operators are conditioned for the job throughout their lives. Yeah, right!
I do think many speed cameras are simply put there to make money, but depending where they are put, that some do save lives.
Avoiding getting caught is down to keeping your eyes peeled at the end of the day... they are usually pretty well marked. I haven't been yet caught luckily.
I saw a post of the dreaded facebook many many months ago.
Someone complaining that "speed vans are revenue makers and shouldn't be there making you slow down suddenly in 30 zones".
I replied, "well if you cant see a huge van with speed cameras on it, what chance are you going to see a small child in the road"

Havn't been on there for about 2 weeks now. I only pop on the to post club events like the breakfast run cruise tomorrow. I find it very irtatating to use, but it seems the majority of people are glued to it, so the only way to comminicate with them is Fb.
The author of the post is not someone who regularly gets caught speeding although his licence, even if clean now has not always been that way.
He actually runs a business selling devices to help motorists avoid speed traps.
Whilst some of his language (AK47) is too extreme for my taste there is no doubt in my mind that speed cameras are about revenue generation.
Whether they are fixed or mobile devices safety is not the key consideration, money is.
Comparing the police officers who use them to insurgents and terrorists however (typical users of that weapon) was uncalled for. If I was a police officer (and I nearly was!) my personal morality would mean I would not do that job preferring to resign first. But everyone moral compass is guided differently I suppose.

As I say, I agree, the majority of speed cameras are purely for generating money, same goes for things like bus lane or box junction cameras if you ask me. But not all speed cameras. Those in heavily residential areas where kids, dog walkers or the elderly etc have to cross roads are a good idea. When I'm parked waiting for my son, who's one of 750 kids pouring out of his school, some wan#ers drive past at such a speed they deserve to be nicked quite frankly. And I'm sure a fine and licence points are easier to live with than someone's death.
If I was a police officer assigned to catch speeders, I think I'd be more unhappy that there were higher priorities rather than because it was immoral.
I guess what I'm alluding to is that speeding where it is dangerous is more immoral than trying to catch someone for doing it.
