For the first time ever, Chevrolet is offering the 1LE performance package on the V6 version of the Camaro. While the V6 is no slouch, making 355 horsepower and all, but it’s not the full-on V8 experience you get with the SS. But, is the V6 1LE a worth competitor? Is it something you’d consider buying? While it seems odd, V6 muscle cars are pretty good these days. The V6 in the Mustang, which happens to be the base engine, makes 300 horsepower. But the EcoBoost turbocharged 4-cylinder makes 310. It’s available with a track package that includes summer rubber, Brembo brakes, better suspension and more. The Challenger V6 is also no slouch, though considering how inexpensive the V8 is on that car I say it’s worth paying the premium. On a racetrack, though, the Challenger isn’t nearly as competitive as the Mustang and the Camaro. The idea of the 1LE is to obviously make the car perform even better on the racetrack. The full-on V8 version gets an electronically-controlled limited slip differential and magnetic ride control. The V6 gets a better suspension from the SS, but not the fancy computer wizardry or the magnetic shocks.Regardless, for a car weighing less than 3,500 it should be a decent performer.Does the 1LE V6 put it noticeably ahead of the performance packaged Mustang EcoBoost? We won’t know until we drive it, but it does seem like Chevrolet is really trying to move the Camaro into another league of performance.Let us know what you think over in our forums!Tags: 1LE, 2017 Camaro 1LE, camaro, chevrolet Camaro
