What is a BBQ?

To me it is cooking outside with coals/charcoal, the smell of the smoke cooking the food. The taste of the food with that lovely BBQ smokes taste.

To others who appear to have trouble lighting BBQ's go for an outdoor gas cooker. They still call it a BBQ? I think of it as an outside cooker, it doesn't have the qualities of a real flame BBQ.

Whats your thoughts on it? Is a gas 'BBQ' still a BBQ?

A search on Wiki comes up with:-
The word "barbecue" when used as a noun can refer to: the cooking method itself, the meat cooked this way, the cooking apparatus used (the "barbecue grill" or simply "barbecue"), or to a type of social event featuring this type of cooking. The term is also used as a verb, i.e. "barbecuing" is usually done outdoors by smoking the meat over wood or charcoal.
