If the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS and the Corvette Stingray were having a text conversation today, it’d go like this:SS:
Stingray: If these Hennessey Performance dyno numbers are correct, the ‘Vette has officially been put on notice by its label mate. According to given engine horsepower numbers, the 2016 SS puts out 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft. of torque from its 6.2L LT1 V8. The base Corvette (also with a 6.2L LT1 V8) is listed at 460 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. But according to these Dynojet videos from Hennessey, the SS gives 431.08 wheel horses and 427.92 wheel lb-ft torque. The Corvette (stock with the Z51 and 3LT packages) offers 399.53 wheel horsepower and 400.94 lb-ft of torque. The Corvette dyno was also recorded and posted in 2013, so take that how you want. And for what it’s worth, the SS was fitted with a 6-speed manual transmission, and the Corvette had a 6-speed automatic (they have 8-speed autos now). The Corvette is still lighter and is more sport car-specific in opposition to the muscle car, but power-wise, this is pretty impressive from the Camaro.[Via Car Buzz]Tags: camaro, Chevrolet, Corvette, SS, Stingray
