With the announcement that General Motors and the Chevy Performance division will be rolling out with LT1 and LT4 crate engines you can buy, it"s time we took a look at where those engines will be coming out of. We take a look at the Tonawanda Engine Plant and some of the more interesting details about the facility.
Tonawanda is located just across the Niagara River in Buffalo, New York and consists of three engine plants: GM Powertrain Tonawanda Engine Plant #1, #4, and #5. These facilities assemble the LT1; LT4; EcoTec3 4.3L V6, 5.3L, and 6.2L V8s; and the EcoTec 2.0L Turbo and 2.5L.In 2014, the plants were responsible for building 610,634 engines total and have produced 71,942,245 engines since it was opened in 1938. That"s a lot of engines for swaps in its 77-year history. However, it was in 2010 that Tonawanda Engine was given $400-million for the new generation small block V8. #gallery-2 { margin: auto; } #gallery-2 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-2 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-2 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
