With zero per cent finance deals ranging from £145 per month to £350, there's rarely been a better time to buy a new family car or runabout.

It always pays to take note of the interest rates on car finance deals, as the prospect of paying over the odds for anything is never a pleasant thought. If you look carefully, though, some car finance deals are available with 0 per cent APR, so there's no interest charged and you won’t pay more than the list price of the car even over three or more years.

An interest free 0 per cent APR deal means you’ll know exactly how much you will be paying - it’s a good deal for the buyer and helps the seller to tempt more buyers in as well. As long as you stick to the mileage limit (usually 10,000 yearly, or close to that) you won’t pay more than the list price of the car. If you pick a finance deal with a deposit contribution then you might even pay less than that, as the manufacturer chips in some cash to sweeten the deal.

Here we’re looking at some 0 per cent APR deals on our favourite cars. All the deals here are correct at the time of writing, but even if they’ve changed slightly, they still give you an idea of what’s available.

All the cars listed below were winners or runners-up in our 2020 Auto Express Awards, so every single one of these models is a great car - and we’ll explain why below. Read on to find the best 0 per cent finance deals for 2021...

Volkswagen Up - £145 per month

  • Model: VW Up 1.0 65ps S/S 3 door
  • List price: £12,910
  • Deposit: £2,914.70
  • Monthly payments: £145
  • Number of payments: 35
  • APR: 0%
  • Optional final payment: £4,920.30

The Volkswagen Up won our 2020 Award for being the Best City Car, and it’s been a constant favourite for nearly a decade now. The Up has everything you need from a car yet it’s cheap to buy and run, especially with 0 per cent finance.

There’s more space inside the Up than you might expect, and it’s a light, small car so the 1.0-litre engine doesn’t feel too sluggish. Insurance is cheap as a result of this motor too. The VW is fun to drive, comfortable and even deals with motorway trips without issue - yet clearly it’s most at home around town, where it’s quiet, smooth and easy to drive.

  • Deposit: £4,969
  • Monthly payments: £165

  • APR: 0%
  • Optional final payment: £6,136

The Ford Fiesta is one of the biggest-selling cars in the UK and with 0 per cent finance available, it’s easy to see why. The Fiesta is great value in general, as dealers are all over the country and keen to compete for your business by presenting promising finance offers in addition to Ford’s official deals

It comes with plenty of kit including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, plus it’s comfortable and economical in 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol form. Yet the Fiesta’s best quality is the way it drives. It’s great fun no matter which model you pick - it’s not just the ST that feels sporty from behind the wheel, as all versions are agile, nippy and really enjoyable.

Toyota Yaris - £189 per month

  • Model: Toyota Yaris 1.5 Hybrid Design
  • List price: £21,855
  • Deposit: £4,971
  • Monthly payments: £189
  • Number of payments: 41
  • APR: 0%
  • Optional final payment: £9,135

The new Toyota Yaris was a surprise hit when it arrived earlier in 2020, because previous versions were a bit too dull and uncompetitive to be worthy of recommendation. Yet this new hybrid-only model is the best yet and an Auto Express Award winner.

The electric motor means that it drives smoothly and very quietly around town, and fuel economy is strong. It’s also fun on twisty roads, as it stays composed in corners and is nice and comfortable over bumps as well. The Yaris has a much-improved interior this time around too, and best of all it’s available with several 0 per cent finance deals.

Renault Zoe - £259 per month

  • Model: Renault Zoe GT Line R135 Z.E. 50 Rapid Charge
  • List price: £31,995
  • Deposit: £6,282 (£750 contribution)
  • Monthly payments: £259
  • Number of payments: 36
  • APR: 0%
  • Optional final payment: £15,639

While other electric car manufacturers have focused their attention on more upmarket model segments and in particular fashionable SUVs, Renault boldly set its sights on a more populist audience with its Zoe EV - it was the first battery-powered supermini on the block.

While the Zoe has been joined by more recent rivals such as the Vauxhall Corsa-e and Peugeot e-208, we still awarded the most recent Zoe our gong for Best Affordable Electric Car in the 2020 Awards.

With a 53kWh battery the Zoe R135 Rapid Charge can knock off up to 250 miles on a charge, which beats many much pricier rivals. It's also configured for 50kWh charge rates which means you can get the battery back up to 80 per cent in not much more than an hour.

You can choose a cheaper Zoe from as little as £199 per month if you don't need the range or the kit of our favourite top-spec model, but an extra £60 per month is worth it for the range-topper.

Ford Kuga - £310 per month

  • Model: Ford Kuga ST-Line 2.0 EcoBlue Mild Hybrid 150PS
  • List price: £32,075
  • Deposit: £6,682
  • Monthly payments: £310
  • Number of payments: 36
  • APR: 0%
  • Optional final payment: £13,233

The Ford Kuga won our 2020 Auto Express Award for being the Best Mid-size SUV - that’s a real achievement in a class this competitive. The Kuga won because it’s comfortable, economical and practical enough to match the best cars in its class.

Yet like other models in the Ford range, the Kuga is also great to drive. It feels more like a hatchback than other SUVs, with good grip and little body roll, but it retains the SUV look and practicality that buyers crave.

Like the Fiesta above, you should be able to find plenty of dealers around willing to offer great deals on the excellent Ford Kuga.

Mazda MX-5 - £335 per month

  • Model: Mazda MX-5 1.5 SE-L
  • List price: £24,865
  • Deposit: £3,739.25 (£500 contribution)
  • Monthly payments: £335
  • Number of payments: 36
  • APR: 0%
  • Optional final payment: £8,565.75

Mazda often offers 0 per cent finance on its cars in the UK and we reckon the best one at the moment is the Mazda MX-5, the world’s best-selling sports car. It’s also one of the best sports cars ever, as it brings true driving pleasure at an affordable price.

It’s a joy to drive in any form, with revvy petrol engines, a great gearshift and wind-in-your-hair thrills. It’s comfortable even on bumpy British B-roads and it even remains surprisingly economical because of its low weight. It could be a bit more practical but it’s a great car for those looking for some everyday fun.Check out the latest used Mazda MX-5 deals on our sister site Buyacar...

Skoda Octavia - £349 per month

  • Model: Skoda Octavia SE L 1.5TSI 150PS
  • List price: £25,970
  • Deposit: £2,530.10 (£1,000 contribution)
  • Monthly payments: £349
  • Number of payments: 35
  • APR: 0%
  • Optional final payment: £10,224.90

The Skoda Octavia has long been a favourite among value-conscious buyers, but the latest version raised the bar with smart new looks, contemporary infotainment and a thoroughly upmarket feel.

The Octavia is so good, in fact, that like other models in the Skoda line-up it competes on outright desirability and not simply affordability or practicality. Yet it continues to shine in both those areas too, so no wonder we felt compelled to award the Octavia our hotly contested Car of The Year Award in 2020.

With 0 per cent finance deals adding to the Octavia's appeal, do you really need any more reasons to choose this seriously appealing Skoda? Well here's another - the Skoda brand regularly trounces premium German marques in our annual Driver Power customer satisfaction survey.
