GM Performance announced LT5 crate engine just ahead of SEMA, now we know how much it costs. The SEMA show has come and gone, but the show happenings, and effects of the show, are still being felt. Case in point, just ahead of SEMA GM Performance announced that the LT5 crate engine was coming. That is, of course, the engine out of the 2019+ Corvette ZR1. It’s a 6.2-liter, direct fuel-injected V8 that is force-fed 9psi of boost from a 2.6-liter Eaton R2650 TVS supercharger, which results in 755 horsepower and 715 lb-ft of torque. With forged pistons, over-engineered aluminum heads with titanium intake valves and a bunch of other engineering feats, the LT5 is the most powerful engine ever fitted to a Chevrolet production car. Now, you can buy one and swap it into, well, anything. The biggest question Chevy wouldn’t tell us at SEMA as the price tag. Now that pre-orders are available, we have an accompanying price. List price is $19,995, and GM Performance is offering an introductory price of a mere $17,915. A bargain, if we’ve ever seen one. Well, probably not for our purposes. But, hey, if you want the baddest GM engine around, it’s now just a phone call or web order away. #gallery-2 { margin: auto; } #gallery-2 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-2 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-2 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */ <br style="clear: both" />
