BMW has launched First Editions of the new X5 and X6 M Competition SUVs. Production is limited to just 250 examples of each – with just in total 15 allocated for the UK market in total.

Prices for the BMW X5 M Competition First Edition will start from £136,400, while the equivalent X6 variant will carry a price tag of £139,100. Deliveries for both models are expected to commence in spring 2021.

Standard equipment for both SUVs includes new carbon fibre door mirrors, a carbon fibre engine cover and a set staggered alloy wheels, sized at 21 inches up front and 22 inches at the rear. Buyers also have their choice of two unique paint finishes – Frozen Dark Silver matte or Frozen Marina Bay Blue.

Potential buyers will have to move quickly though, as BMW is only sending 10 special edition X5s to the UK, with just five examples of each colour available. The X6 First Edition will be even more exclusive, with only three examples available in the silver and two examples available in the blue.

Inside, the two special edition models feature exclusive two-tone leather upholstery with black Alcantara inserts and bright orange stitching. The same stitching features on the instrument binnacle surround and door cards, while the both cars’ headlinings are finished in unique Midnight Blue Alcantara.

BMW has also added a few carbon fibre trim pieces to both cars’ cabins – both SUVs come with replacement dashboards and centre consoles hewn from the lightweight material. Buyers can also choose to have a unique “First Edition” emblem baked into the clear coat on the passenger side of the dashboard panel.

Both SUVs are powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 engine which, in Competition spec, produces 616bhp and 750Nm of torque. Power is sent through an eight-speed automatic gearbox to all four wheels, which BMW says is enough to give both cars a 0–62mph time of around four seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.
