For those of you that are new to Amsoil products, they are a brand with a rich history in motorsports, and a huge name over in the States. Sponsoring massive American events such as the Grand National Cross Country, the official oil in the AMA Supercross Championship and sponsor for the International Hot Rod Association, you can see why they're trusted time and time again by motoring enthusiasts accross the world.
Amsoil was founded by Albert J. Amatuzio, a former jet fighter pilot who had conducted research on synthetic engine oils in the early 1960s. After several years of in depth study, Amsoil then formulated synthetic oils for other applications, including specialised vehicles and severe operating conditions. The breakthrough came in 1972, when they developed the worlds first fully synthetic motor oil to meet API service requirements - you can now see why they are so popular in the world of race, rally and track driving, as they were designed from the ground up to offer outstanding levels of protection, even under the harshest conditions.

Opies have an array of quality Amsoil products on the shelf and ready to go, and don't forget that you can get 10% off everything with your forum discount code! I tried your suggested alternative for oil, and even with their 60% off offer's, it was was still more than Opie, it was actually more expensive than Halfords too.

I sense you are not rating Rockauto too high at the moment. perhaps start a thread on your experiences with them.

Yes i did buy a shed load of filters, buy my shed is big so there is room for more.

I will be asking Opie for a lubricant suggestion for the Limited slip diff in my 2009 Challenger SRT.
The couple of times I have used Opie it has been a positive experience and when winter comes around the diff is on my maintenance list.

Hi

Your diff takes a 75w-140 oil and the Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip, Gulf Gear LS, Red Line 75w-140 GL5, Fuchs Sintopoid LS, Motul Gear Competition and Millers CRX NT LS are good options.

This is an odd one. I checked the database when I replied earlier and it lists a 08 onwards model, so I checked that and it listed the 75w-140. Now I've just checked again and they list an 09 specific model, but with no diff oil recommendation. I checked the 2010 model as well and that lists different diffs. The 198 or 215mm version takes a 75w-140, or if it has the 226mm diff, it takes a 75w-90. Any idea which one is on your car?

Cheers

Tim

Did a bit of searching and found this:

First a little background information on the various differentials. Automatic R/T’s (for whatever reason) have been given the 215mm open rear (no LSD), only now (2012) are they available with an optional 226 Getrag rear with LSD for an extra $100 with the super track pack. An option well worth the $100, but not one most of us auto guys had the chance to take advantage of.

All SRT8’s have the 226mm Getrag rear, with the exception of the 2008 model which had a 215mm. Automatic SRT’s have a 3.06 gear ratio, while manual trans cars get 3.91’s.

Manual trans R/T’s also get the 226 mm rear, the cars with the 18” tires have 3.73 gears while those with 20” tires get the 3.91’s.

So on the basis mine is an M6 SRT8 from 2009, I guess it should have the 226mm diff which means 75w-90.
It would also appear to need the additive unless the oil you are recommending has it included?

Thanks

Thanks for that, seems to clear it up. The Motul Gear 300LS, Millers CRX NT LS, Gulf Competition LS and Red Line GL5 are idealas it needs a 75w-90 LSD oil. They contain the friction modifier for LSDs already.

Limited Slip Differential (LSD) & Axle Car Oil
