The Renault Captur range has been expanded with new R.S. Line and SE Limited specifications, boosting the compact SUV’s range of trim levels to five.

The sporty new Renault Captur R.S. Line is priced from £23,800 and comes fitted as standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, rear privacy glass and a “Formula One-inspired” bodykit, with a deep front splitter and fresh rear diffuser.

Inside, there’s a similar range of sporty styling cues, such as dedicated R.S. Line upholstery, a perforated leather steering wheel, red air vent surrounds, faux carbon fibre dashboard trim, aluminium pedals and a black headliner.

R.S. Line models get the same level of standard equipment as the Captur S Edition, which includes keyless operation, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and automatic air-conditioning. There’s also a 9.3-inch infotainment system, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The new Captur SE Limited sits between the entry-level Play and mid-range Iconic models, with a starting price of £20,300. It comes as standard with 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, LED headlights, privacy glass and special “Limited” badging for the front wings.

Rear parking sensors and keyless entry also come as standard, along with a host of safety equipment, such as lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking and cruise control. Inside, SE Limited cars feature climate control and a seven-inch infotainment system with live traffic updates, Google search functionality, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto all fitted as standard.

Renault has also made a few subtle improvements to the rest of the Captur range. The base Play model now comes with rear parking sensors as standard, while the mid-range Iconic features automatic high beam and Renault’s 3D-effect rear light clusters. S Edition cars also get new 18-inch alloy wheels.

Buyers have a choice of three powertrains: the cheapest option is a turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit with 89bhp and 160Nm of torque, badged TCe 90. It sends drive to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox and returns claimed fuel economy of 47.9mpg.

Above that sits Renault’s TCe 140 mild-hybrid petrol engine. The 1.3-litre four-cylinder unit produces 138bhp and 260Nm of torque, which the brand says is enough for a 0-62mph time of 10.3 seconds and a top speed of 122mph. It also comes with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, although buyers can opt for a seven-speed automatic for an extra £1,600.

The R.S. Line model is also available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The system comprises a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor and a 9.8kWh battery for a combined output of 158bhp and 340Nm of torque. Prices start from £32,695.

Renault says the PHEV system will return up to 188.3mpg on the WLTP combined cycle, while emitting as little as 34g/km of CO2. The battery allows for up to 31 miles of pure-electric driving, while the extra performance drops the crossover’s 0-62mph time to 10.1 seconds.
