Earlier this year, Genesis announced that it will launch in Europe, and now the premium Korean car brand has revealed its G70 Shooting Brake at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The G70 Shooting Brake will be the fifth car Genesis brings to Europe, and it’s intended to rival the likes of BMW’s 3 Series Touring and the Audi A4 Avant.

The Shooting Brake’s styling carries over plenty of the design elements we’ve seen on other Genesis cars, with a ‘Crest Grille’ featuring alongside the front ‘Quad Lamps’ to accentuate the car’s sporty profile.

Identical in width, height and length to the G70 saloon on which it’s based, the G70 Shooting Brake is also more rakish than the average estate car. There’s no side window after the C-pillar with the tailgate sloping heavily to give the car a sleeker, sportier look.

However, the shooting brake body style isn’t just for show. The car has a 330-litre boot, which is 40 percent bigger in comparison to the G70 saloon, and the rear seats fold in a handy 40/20/40 split.

Inside, Genesis’s premium ambitions are clear to see with knurled finishes on most of the switchgear, as well as diamond-quilted perforated leather. The Shooting Brake will match its saloon stablemate for technology, with a wireless smartphone charger, a 10.25-inch infotainment system and a 360-degree camera, as well as a 3D digital instrument cluster.

Other kit includes a range of driver assists, such as adaptive cruise control that can bring the car to a full stop, lane keep assist and forward collision warning with emergency braking.

At launch, the G70 Shooting Brake will be offered with one petrol and one diesel motor, both of which are shared with the saloon. The petrol is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit with 251bhp and 353Nm of torque, with the 2.2-litre diesel putting out 199bhp and a healthy 440Nm. Both drive the rear wheels alone through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The G70 saloon is available with a range-topping 3.3-litre turbocharged V6 petrol that powers all four wheels, but this won’t be offered with the Shooting Brake initially - we expect it to arrive later.

Genesis says that the G70 will offer a more sporting driving experience than the larger, E-Class-rivalling G80, although there is still a heavy focus on comfort. Three trim levels will be available - ‘premium’, ‘luxury’ and ‘sport’ - details of which will follow.

UK sales of the G70 and G70 Shooting Brake will commence towards the end of the year, and prices for all of Genesis’s new models will be confirmed closer to the brand’s European launch this summer.
