Fiat has launched a new City Sport trim-level for the recently updated Tipo. It adds a couple of cosmetic tweaks and some extra standard equipment to the Italian brand’s family hatchback. Prices start from £20,695.
Exterior upgrades for the Fiat Tipo City Sport include new 18-inch alloy wheels, full LED headlamps and a dedicated “Sport” badge for the car’s front wings. Fiat has also swapped the standard car’s front grilles, mirror caps and door handles for gloss black replacements.
The door mirrors are now heated, electrically adjustable and feature an exterior temperature sensor. Front and rear parking sensors come as standard, along with keyless go, a rear-view camera and an active grille shutter, which blanks-off the car’s front end to get the engine up to temperature faster.
Inside, the Tipo City Sport gets a new leather steering wheel with a chrome bezel, a leather gear knob and some fresh chrome trim for the air vent surrounds and handbrake button.
There’s a seven-inch digital gauge cluster ahead of the driver and, atop the dashboard, a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other standard features include adaptive cruise control, lane assist and a traffic sign recognition system, which automatically displays the current speed limit on the gauge cluster.
As with the rest of the Tipo range, buyers of the Tipo City Sport only have one engine choice. It’s a naturally aspirated 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol unit, which produces 99bhp and 190Nm of torque. The unit sends drive to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.
It makes for a rather pedestrian 0–62mph time of 11.8 seconds and a top speed of 119mph. However, the car makes up for this by being economical – Fiat says the engine will return 51.4mpg on the WLTP combined cycle, while producing 125g/km CO2.
