Looking at a bottle washer for our kitchen — which type actually suits daily use?

We're expecting our second child and I'm trying to sort out the kitchen before things get busy again, so I've been reading about bottle washers for 2026. The main thing I can't settle is whether a countertop unit is worth the space, or whether we're better off keeping to the dishwasher and a drying rack. Our kitchen isn't huge and the counter already has a coffee machine and a kettle on it, so footprint matters. I'm also unsure how much maintenance these units need — descaling, filters, that sort of thing — since I don't want another appliance that turns into a chore. I found some third-party information online about different models, but the specs don't really tell me how they fit into a normal family routine. If anyone here has used one with a young baby, I'd like to hear whether it earned its counter space or ended up in a cupboard. What should I be weighing up before deciding?

Countertop footprint is the deciding factor for most small kitchens, and you already have two appliances parked there. A unit that has to be filled, drained, and descaled adds chores rather than removing them, especially once a second child arrives. If your dishwasher has a good top rack and a heated drying cycle, the drying rack route costs nothing and takes no counter space. Ask yourself whether bottle washing is actually your bottleneck or whether it's just the volume of small parts. In a compact kitchen, I'd lean toward the dishwasher first and only buy a dedicated unit if that routine genuinely fails.
