Mercedes is gearing up for the launch of its facelifted AMG GT 4-Door. The revised coupe will go on sale at the end of the year with some minor cosmetic tweaks and a plug-in hybrid powertrain, which should make the car a more rounded rival for the Porsche Panamera.

The camouflage on this latest mule is a little less thorough than the previous one, giving us a better look at the car’s tweaked front bumper. The new GT 4-Door’s lower intake is a little larger than the old model’s, while its side intakes feature a more intricate slatted design.

Mercedes hasn’t fiddled with the rest of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe’s styling, although buyers will likely be able to choose from a few extra paint finishes and a couple of new alloy wheel designs.

As the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is closely related to the recently revised AMG E 63 S, we expect it’ll receive the same sports steering wheel and a similar range of trim and upholstery revisions. The coupe should also adopt the latest version of Mercedes’s 12.3-inch dual-screen infotainment system.

Like the current car, Mercedes will continue to offer the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe with either a 429bhp 3.0-litre straight-six mild-hybrid or 639bhp twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine. However, rumours are circulating that the updated coupe will also be available with a new plug-in hybrid powertrain, potentially lifted from the upcoming AMG S 73 e.

The PHEV powertrain will be based around the same 4.0-litre V8 engine already used in the GT 4-Door, albeit with the addition of a lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor mounted somewhere along the car’s four-wheel drive system.

Mercedes-AMG is yet to officially announce any specifications for the new performance PHEV powertrain, but executives have previously hinted that it’ll generate more than 800bhp and that it’ll be capable of travelling more than 60 miles on electric power alone.
