This hasn't been easy to write in the slightest, so please bear with us:
As a team we have been working closely with our friends over at Portsmouth City Council Events Team. Collectively we have been keeping an eye on the current events, and going through any government guidelines with a fine-toothed comb, as and when they are published.
This week, more guidelines were released, and Portsmouth City Council, with our unconditional support, have taken the very hard, and responsible decision to cancel Beach Dubbin' 2020.
Our team, and theirs used Beach Dubbin' as a test case, we went through all possible scenarios, and it became more and more evident that it would be impossible to protect our incredible volunteers (who are made up of our families, friends, and colleagues), our own team, our traders, caterers, club members, and the general public. Safety for all is always our priority.
After informing our traders, sponsors, caterers etc we have now released our formal statement.
Although guidance states Covid 19 less contagious in outdoor areas, as you will know it is very busy, and crowded, which makes social distancing impossible, and as a collective team we could never forgive ourselves if we were the cause of a virus hot spot.
It hasn't been an easy decision to make, we are obviously heartbroken to share this news with you, however, the events team at the council are equally as devastated as we are. The right decisions are never the easiest to make, and if they hadn't cancelled the show before us, we would have cancelled it ourselves. We hope you can understand.
Portsmouth City Council have kindly booked us again for next year already, and our dates are Sunday 1st August 2021
Now, on a more positive note, and as we say at Beach Dubbin' - Never Say Die!
Our team will be working closely over the next few weeks (virtually) to put on a brilliant virtual show via our social media channels - so keep an eye out for more announcements in the coming days and weeks for more information! We will be promoting those who would have been trading, caterers, clubs etc and giving out prizes
