1964.5 Ford Mustang D-Code

Triple Red Ford Mustang for sale. This is a rare car the D-code signifies that this car was manufactured before the Mustang was officially released in 1965 hence often referred to as a 1964.5. This particular car was car number 66,890 that rolled out of the Michigan plant in 1964. Mustangs were not produced sequentially and shared the production line with other Ford models like the Galaxy and the Thunderbird. So this really is a very early and rare Mustang.

This particular car also has the original and rare pre-release, legendary 289 cubic inch 4 barrel carb V8 Ford engine which only featured as an option in the 1964.5 Mustang. This can be identified by the breather pipe in the back of the block. This was the same block in other fords of the era like the Thunderbird, but in 1965, Ford updated their signature V8 design which featured in the 1965 and 1966 Mustangs.
I found this car in Austin Texas where it had been lovingly cared for by a father and son team who kept it in excellent condition. I shipped the car back to the UK and had some additional work done to get the car through its MOT even though it isn t a legal requirement, I felt it was important to ensure the car was in excellent, road worthy condition.
This is not a show car, but it is an excellent Sunday driver that is ready to go. You will struggle to find another original D-code in this condition. All old cars always need something doing to them, particularly to maintain this sort of condition, but this one really is ready to go. Its incredible.
