Motor Sports??

did some banger racing 78/79 at allington lane. only thing i ever won was the death. still rember being rolled over [ in my car ] by the other drivers

I did some grass track/autograss racing at Funtley near Titchfield, then at few tracks around Horndean over the following years. Our club ran bangers too. I had a couple of cousins who banger raced at Allington Lane, Graham and Steve Gibbs. Not sure what year that was though.

This frightening crash happened in the F1 race in Bahrain today. Just goes to show how good today's F1 safety systems are!!

Perhaps they will rethink the barriers for future races. Even bringing back tires has gotta be safter than slipping between what ooks like motorway barriers. Could have taken his head off it it wasn't for them baby stoller bars.

Rear of his car broke away that has the engine in it, where is the fuel tank? I guess thats at the front causing it to burn?

Indeed! The halo saved his life for sure. The race commentators were talking about there being a weak point in the barriers at that point for some reason. I think part of the problem was the angle that the barrier jutted out to create the service vehicle opening.
Yeah I think the fuel tank sits behind the driver and in front of the engine. They are a bag or bladder type tank these days. They are meant to be resistive to being punctured, but it was probably torn open by the impact. Apparently the driver was subjected to about a 53g deceleration!

53g, wow, he was lucky he wasn't knocked out, as if he didn't get out of that car himself it looks like it may have been some time before firefighters could get to him. They were on the scene quick, but the flames just weren't dyeing down. That could have quite easily been fatal.
