GDPR

I wonder if that was down to human error as opposed to the app?
Could be..., Sarah had a test, and you write your phone number on the bit of paper with the test sample and send it off. Easy for an error t be made in writing or the person interpreting it at the other end. With millions of tests being done, I'm surprised this hasn't come up more often.

And now it’s come to light that facial recognition is being used by those traffic flow monitoring cameras that hang from every bridge on motorways along with those town centre cctv installations.
Crime prevention might be a valid excuse in town centers but what possible need is there for facial recognition on the motorways?
And your face falls under GDPR when combined with the other data records they combine it with.
Totalitarianism is getting closer.

I can understand that if you were speeding and the camera takes a photo and they want to prove who was driving at the time. But to continiouly recognise faces is a bit must. Most of the criminals were masks or hoodies anyway, so they are not going to catch the drug dealers and other low lifes.

There will be criminals who don't wear masks, such as #rseholes like that guy who charged an old lady £160 before giving her a bogus Covid jab! He probably uses motorways. If he'd done that to my dear late Mum and they had his face on CCTV, then I'd say use all available means to catch the b#tard. Who honestly wouldn't?
Authorities have our faces on record anyway from passports and driving licences. But my worry with this would be: How accurate can a camera be when photographing someone in a speeding car on a motorway and how much wasted police time and wrongly accused people will there be as a result?

I don’t buy this whole, if your doing nothing wrong you have nothing to hide.

1) Who decides what is right and what is wrong? Is it you, or someone else?; 2) If you look at history, totalitarianism starts almost imperceptibly, with freedoms being slowly peeled away in the name of some greater good. I think we all have a pretty good idea about what happens after that…

That's fair enough. I guess this is in part about our personal preferences, beliefs and fears. I am not trying to sell mine, just expressing them. And they are that I don't have a problem with us being under general surveillance and don't believe Britian will end up a totalitarian state as a result of it.
And my fear of crime as a result of a lack of general surveillance is outweighed by my fear of the surveillance itself.
Regarding who makes the decisions, I believe that we live in sufficiently democratic country for that not to be a concern. By comparison, I wouldn't say that in the case of, say China, for example lol. I have many Chinese friends and can tell you, theirs is a very different world to ours!
I put a hypothetical, tentative question in my last post about utilising such surveillance in relation to being a victim of crime. Out of interest, how would you answer that?

. By comparison, I wouldn't say that in the case of, say China,

I wonder when China ceased to be a free country?
Just after the outbreak of the second-Sino war in 1937?

Or did Europe when Realise what Hitler would almost succeed in doing? Imagine how the tech today would have improved his chances of success.

Both very examples that occurred over a time period short enough to affect your kids.

Ask a Russian or other Eastern block country citizen how their lives improved after the fall of the USSR and how Putin has done so much to return to those times.

I’m not selling a view either, pointless exercise as you and I are poles apart.

But I do wonder if you have ever really considered where this might end up?
Think of your kids, the future your advocating does affect them and will do so far more than you and it’s not a good future.

Don’t sell their privacy short. It’s a right but not for much longer unless we defend it.

You are quoting situations in countries of very different cultures to ours and that we as a nation despise and have learned from.
Yes, of course I have considered where this might end up... my opinion is nowhere that we need to worry about.
And no, I don't believe I am selling my children's privacy short. I am saying that in this country, I believe our lives and their future would ultimately be better with surveillance than without it.
I agree, we do disagree on this... that's what "fair enough" means lol.

You bought China into the equation, I merely questioned when they lost their freedom.
And mainland Europe, a vastly different culture to ours? Interesting.

So the remaining question is, this thread is about GDPR, our right to privacy and exposure when that right is breached. So what are you doing here?

Yes, to illustrate WHY the lost their freedom.

Parts of it, of course!

Well, you replied! lol

I highlighted when China ceased to become a free country and the fact that at a point not too long ago they were. This is a counterpoint to you using them as example of what we aren’t.

And much more of Europe, particularly in the date range of WWII is culturally similar than not.

Of course I replied. It’s my thread and I use it highlight breaches in freedom. But for you? You don’t agree with me, you don’t share my concerns so why?
Is this another Peloton like example where you had no dog in the race but felt the need to fight a corner anyway?

What is the point of posting a forum thread on an emotive subject if there isn't meant to be any resulting discussion which may include opposing opinions?

What is this? Speaker's corner! Lol

You’ve made your point, we are at odds. You bring nothing further to the discussion and often argue from a point of ignorance. You even suggested to me that we stay out of each other’s threads only to discover you couldn’t do that!
I’d be happy for you to comment on all my threads as long as you recognize that someone’s else view is as valid as yours and also recognize when you know fuck all about the subject in hand. Examples, GDPR, Peloton amongst others.
But you can’t, the tyrannical ego-Rex monster has to be fed.
Well, I’m not feeding it any more, back on ignore you go.

You even suggested to me that we stay out of each other’s threads..
Guys, just for the record regarding the above, Dave responded to my messages several times after this..so I assumed we were getting along again. I also sent him polite private messages to try and reconcile things.
But now he has shown his true colours and with offensive language. And why?... because I opposed his opinion!
What a nice guy!!!
