Sarah's 1991 Camaro

Would Hawks Third Gen have them?
Had a look, none listed or from the other places I usually shop. Found some stateside on ebay.

Found a nice way round it. Only 2 had failed. Used a split pin. Pictured the proper clip.

Modified split pin became the perfect size in both width and thickness.

It does mean to change that injector in future its fuel rail off, but I'm happy with that.

Greesed up the orings and manifold holes

Connected fuel rails up.

Ignition on to check no fuel is leaking. All looks good, so reassembling intake, throttle cables, vacuum pipes and air con bolt.

Won't be long before attempting to fire up. Had to go in for dinner. Going back out to the garage shortly.

ok i can bring it over when would be convenient
Sorry for the delayed reply. Wanted to get the fuel system sealed up with no leaks before borrowing the guage. I'm in all week or can nip to yours. One evening would be better if you are coming here as can test while you wait.

I'm thinking pressure it the issue now. No restriction in the fuel pressure regulator. It almost fires up. No smell of fuel in the exhaust so not too rich. So I'm thinking lack of fuel now due to possible low pressure. If the guage shows low then new pump and filter will be going in.

Turns over very fast, trying to fire. Charging battery now, going to try again tomorrow. Sooo close.

Pump with sender, wiring and new pipes are a good price.

I'll check pump volts again tomorrow while cranking. If fuel pressure is bad then its change pump time.

Having lots of fun with this problem

Having lots of fun with this problem
Yeah, and fixing lots of things along the way, it's been fun as the car dosn't need to go anywhere. Electrical stuff is easy, it's getting access to mechanical stuff and eliminating parts along the way is a little more challenging.
There is a rubber hose berween the pump and the top of the tank, if that is perished then that could cause lack of pressure(if lack of pressure the problem) . If I'm going in the tank I'm fitting all new stuff, hanger, pump, sender etc.

So has the regulator been replaced now?
Nope, not ordered it yet, seeing what other bits I need first. The regulator not stopping the fuel anymore. I know it will run rough and rich, but it should run, I'm not getting a rich mix yet, so either too much air or not enough fuel presently.

Thinking the regulator was on the input side, its actually on the return, so with this disabled pressure regulator I will be lacking pressure for the injectors.
I best get the regulator on order. I can still test pressure by restricting the return fuel, I read about this somewhere, there is a flexi pipe that can be clamped.

Knowing that the pump is running I would proceed with the regulator at a minimum. In your shoes I might even splash the cash and renew the pump at the same time. Its almost 30 years old and you already have the access hole cut. Gives it the best chance of running reliably after the actual issue is fixed.

Yeah true, £40 for the regualor and £50 for the pump assembly isn't a bad price for everything.

Pump alone is around £15, but rather renew the lot while in the tank.

It's almost alive.

This is with a full adjustable flow control for the return fuel, therefore creating pressure in the rails.

Order is with Rockauto, the two parts I needed were the fuel pressure regulator and the pump/intank assembly. Trying to find alternatives that would ship from the same location didn't happen. So had to have two lots of shipping, so thinking what else could need to maximise things. Rotor arm possible and a fuel filter, went for plugs and leads too and dizzy cap. All coming from the same two locations.

Only came to £120ish, but after shipping and taxes its £230, but atleast I know its all new. Certainly worth doing.

I've placed the order now with a 5% discount code, so dont tell me any other parts I may need. I'm not listening!.

What about the flux capacitor? :)
I think you have made the right call. Swap it all out and aim for reliability when/if Sarah drives it again.

Swmnbo drive lt??????? Lol

Parts arriving Tuesday.

From the investigation on the ECU earth, I'd stil like to keep that modification. At present I have put pins on the end of wires and poked them in the 4 earth connection on the ECU connectors and taken them to a threaded bolt on the chassis I created. This I'd like to make permanent so will solder to the wires a few inches from the ECU. Then i can tuck the ECU back up where it should be.

i work a late shift so can not bring it over till friday but could leave it out so you could collect it if you need it sooner

I may be okay now, as going to replace everything fuel related. Thanks for the offer anyway.

The two rockauto parcels are in Stanstead, so could arrive tomorrow, estimated delivery is still Tuesday.

As the new tank assembly comes with pipes it is not possible to get these through the hatch I cut. Some people chop the pipes and add joins. For 4 pipes that's 8 potential points of failure. So think I'm going to drop the tank as I'm in no rush and it will be a better job in the end.
