Diecast-inspired sixth-gen Camaro marks 50 years of Mattel hot rods, which began with a Camaro in 1968.In 1968, Mattel sold the company"s first Hot Wheels diecast toys, a 68 Custom Camaro. Now, Chevy and Mattel are commemorating their half-century partnership with a special Hot Wheels edition of the 2018 Camaro. The two companies announced the new special edition at SEMA 2017.For $4,995, Camaro buyers can score the orange-hued Crush exterior color with awesome Satin Graphite stripes laced with Silver Ice Metallic accents. The two racing stripes feature the base color, a familiar orange, just an inch or two wide. The idea, it appears, is to recreate the miles of plastic Hot Wheels track that ran the length of your childhood bedroom. Or your current bedroom…no judgment.Special 50th Anniversary badges adorn the fenders, rear panel, steering wheel, and door-sill plates. The Camaro also wears orange and black accents. That includes darkened taillights, a black Bowtie badge, Galvano chrome inserts on the unique grille, orange brake calipers, and Jet Black leather interior with orange accents. The 20-inch Satin Graphite aluminum wheels finish the look. On the SS edition, those 20-inch wheels wear Chevy"s summer tires. Chevy will only offer the 2018 Camaro Hot Wheels Edition on 2LT, 2SS, or Convertible trims. The companies previously collaborated on a blue Hot Wheels Edition Camaro in 2013. That special edition sold for $6,995 and was available only for 2LT and 2SS trims. That makes this newest 2018 version seem a total bargain. The current 2LT trim sports Chevy"s turbocharged 2.0-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine (275 horsepower) while the 2SS features the 6.2-liter LT1 V8 (455 horsepower). They released the launch car with Hot Wheels livery at the same event. You can read more about that COPO Camaro here. That same reveal also included full-scale customs of several popular Hot Wheels, like the iconic Twin Mill. Chevy also displayed Camaros of all generations next to their smaller-scale counterparts.
