Replaced the thermostat, radiator cap, coolant bottle and coolant today. Fluid was a yucky brown colour so not sure when it was last done (if at all!).

Nice and warm inside now though

Sounds like the red water needed a change. Another job off the list. What's next?

Another coolant change and oil change in the spring. The fluids were ‘that’ dirty it’s cheap insurance.
Then onto the big change. Be great to that huge box of parts out of the house and onto the van.

One of the coolant pipes sprung a leak a couple of weeks back. The hose is perished so decided to order all replacement hoses, if one is bad chances are the others are too.
I was going to give it another coolant change anyway so the timing is right. But, have also decided to swap the mechanical clutch fan for an electric one, and also change both the belt tensioner, idler pulley and belt. Both the idler and tensioner bearings are shot and making a horrible noise but getting to them is a pain but as I'm taking everything off anyway, I got them changed this morning.
Got defeated by the size of the hub bolt on the fan clutch - its 36mm and I didn't have a spanner that big. I do now but will get back to it during the week evenings.
I'll change the oil and filter again too.

Same, my biggest was 32. I bought a proper fan clutch spanner.

Tried to shift it last night but couldn’t hold water pump still. I’m going to chain the pulley to the frame and try again but it will have to wait until Wednesday evening.

Well, the fan clutch wouldn’t shift. Tried all sorts including chaining the pulley to keep it still but no amount of muscle would shift it. So after 90mins decided the conversion to electric fan could wait.
Swapped the hoses, new accessory belt, coolant flush and oil and filter change.
      More work to do tomorrow.

Lots more work done today. Ache really badly after 8 hours of wrenching and I’m only 25% through the project.
      Pics to follow.
