• Thorney Island Family Day 2015

Many moons ago there was a classic & american car show at Thorney Island, the photo on the left was from Thorney Island in 2013. Many people would love to see the Thorney Island show to come back, it would be awesome if it did. Well one step at a time who knows...
What we do know is that on the 18th July the military are doing a family fun day and have invited up to 300 vehicles to attend.
It is STRICTLY PRE ENTRY ONLY (not prepaid) for this one as its on a military base & they need car reg numbers and driver names. Drivers please take I.D. Its cars, trucks, bikes or commercials....venue is Thorney Island & charity is SSAFA (armed forces charity)

Its an army barracks, so there is a security gate. Gate opens no earlier than 9.30 & closes 11.30 then 'on show'til 4pm. £5 per car. Profits are going to services charity SSAFA. They are combining the show with the family day for the base so arena events/beer tent from 1.30 to add a bit of interest. They need reg no, make, model, colour & driver name. Pre entry via Facebook or email pat.pollock@hotmail.co.uk or call 01428685349. Once pre entered, payment is on the day. Driver will need I.D.

There hasn't been any car events on Thorney for a while, so we are hoping this goes smoothly & builds a relationship for the future.

Photos from the Family Fun day at Thorney in 2015.

Meeting Place:- Renegades are meeting on the hill(micks burger van) around 9am and leaving there at 9:15am to convoy down to Thorney.

For some nostalgia take a look at photos from Thorney Island in 2002 and 2003 and 2004

Family days are what it says on the tin. Prmarily for the serving troops and their families. I have done a few at RAF Benson and RAF Odiham in the past. A good day out but not usually open to the general public. The RAF sites put on air shows etc., not sure about Army sites - Not done one before.

Derek Drinkwater, one of the organisers, has just announced there will be a limited amount of post 1980 vehicles being given entry to the show.

So your vehicle is newer than 1980 I would apply sooner rather than later.

I am booked in to take the Corvette. I will probably take the Cossie as well, which my wife will drive. I hope we can keep both together.

Some others will be meeting us on the A259, one being a nice Pontiac Bonneville

See ya guys up on the hill!

OO!! Is this particular Pontiac of a Saturn Simon influence? Or...is it a mystery? *dramatic music*

Hi Dan, not sure if we can be at Micks place for 9.15 departure. We will get there asap and still plan to bring the Corvette and the Cosworth. Both in need of a clean, but not done as I have not been well all week. Should be well enough for the morning. Look forward to seeing you all. JB.

The green beastie is "done". Fancy is reading to go (she is already dancing around the house). Need to install the crystal headlights on the hill in the morning, and hopefully I didn't miss anything. Whew.

See all y'all up on the hill in the morning!

Wow, brilliant day today, the sun was beaming on us, but couldn't feel it too much due to the cool breeze. Many nice cars and many not see before. Derek Drinkwater done a splendid job organising this show. No hiccup's on entry, they checked number plates off a list. Plenty of food and drink on site. Great to talk to soo many people.
A show I will definitely do again!
