    Changed the transmission oil and filter and the engine oil and filter today.

    Turned out to be a sh*t of a job!
    Two bolts on the trans pan snapped whilst undoing them. One took me by surprise, it didn't feel tight or as if the threads were binding but 'snap' and the oh Sh*t moment.
    Then I noticed another binding up so went into tighten/loosen repeat mode with liberal sprays of WD40 around the top of the threads and after some effort it came out in once piece. Another bolt snapped despite the same treatment. Fortunately there is one bolt between them and after reassembly with a new gasket and some instant gasket smeared on both sides of it there are no leaks. New filter went in easy and I suspect the filter and oil were original!!! I have seen worse but it certainly wasn't good.
    Whilst I had it apart I added a transmission cooler too. Heat kills automatic transmissions and towing can certainly increase the slippage of the torque converter which increases heat.
    I thought this was a relatively cheap addition to avoid killing the gearbox and ending up with a £1500 rebuild in the future. Simple mod, just used a pipe cutter to cut the line from the trans to the radiator and then fed that into the cooler. The return from the cooler then rejoins the original pipe back into the original cooler in the radiator. You also don't want the transmission too cool and in cold weather that could no easily happen, so this means that it would be re-heated to somewhere close back to water temp which is of course its designed operating temperature. The cooler is mounted in front of the AC condenser.

    The engine oil was filthy and the filter had been installed by King Kong. Fresh 5W30 and a new filter resulted in an instant increase in cold oil pressure, from 40psi to 59psi.

    All in all, I was out there for 6 hours! But some jobs worth doing. Just need to read test it really but the headlamps are out for a clean and polish!

    Now the next jobs get interesting!
